Dental Implants At BDG

Modern dentistry does everything it can to safely retain its patients’ natural teeth. However, sometimes a tooth can no longer be saved and has to be removed. If a removed tooth is not replaced, not only may it make eating more difficult, but adjacent teeth can shift leading to changes to your bite which can be damaging to your teeth. Dental implants are the gold standard in replacing teeth.

Why Choose An Implant?

  • Durability: compared to a bridge or a denture the implant, if taken care of with brushing, flossing, and hygiene appts, will last over 30 years. Bridge 10 years, denture 5 for comparison
  • Maintains bone level: can talk about how once teeth are removed bone atrophies and how implants will help maintain the bone.
  • Maintains the position of surrounding teeth: talk about how adjacent teeth wont close the space and how opposing tooth wont supraerupt
  • Comfort: sits seamlessly like a natural tooth unlike a denture which is bulky, uncomfortable and may come out when eating or have food get caught under it.
  • Caries risk: because implant is a stand alone unit the adjacent teeth can be better cleaned and be kept caries free. Bridges fail largely because adjacent teeth develop caries under the bridge since you cant floss.

How to Get Started

If you are interested in having an implant placed, see your dentist for a consultation. Your dentist will take digital X-rays to determine if you have sufficient bone tissue around the socket to ensure a successful implant. If you do not have sufficient bone tissue, a bone graft may be required before implants can be considered.
